Mark Hughes has championed Stephen Warnock's bid for an England call-up.

The Blackburn defender has impressed since making a £1.5million move from Liverpool in January, having found opportunities limited at Anfield.

Warnock has thrived in an environment that offers him regular first-team football, establishing himself as an Ewood Park favourite in the process.

With neither Wayne Bridge or Nicky Shorey having shone as understudies to regular first choice England left-back Ashley Cole, Hughes believes his player deserves international recognition.

Influential

"He has done very, very well," said Hughes.

"He was in international squads when he was a Liverpool player and has done everything we have ever asked of him.

"In every game, he has an influence and is a very good left-back. Maybe whoever gets the job will have a look at him."
