Maceo Rigters has spoken of his intention to succeed in English football, after signing for Blackburn on Monday.

The 23-year-old penned a four-year-deal at Ewood Park, and says that despite interest from other clubs, it was always his intention to sign for the Premier League outfit.

"I was ready for the next step in my career," Rigters told BN De Stem, following his departure from NAC Breda.

"Blackburn handed me this chance and gave me the best feeling.

"Here, I want to show what I can. I will do everything to succeed in England."

The striker says he has the greatest of role models before him in Alan Shearer, and Rigters recognises that the Blackburn faithful are no strangers to striking ability.

"I already knew Blackburn was a fantastic club. Alan Shearer, a football great in England played here. For me, this transfer was top on my wish list," he said.

Rigters will now link up with new manager Mark Hughes, who he hopes will aid his growth and progression.

"Of course I knew Hughes already," he continued.

"He was a fantastic player and I heard in England that he also impresses as a manager.

"The fact Hughes was also a striker could help me to become a better player.

"You don't know how happy I am at the moment."
