Blackburn Rovers midfielder Tugay is 'very close' to signing a one-year contract extension with the club.
Tugay's current deal is due to expire at the end of the season but Mark Hughes is keen to keep the Turkish international at Ewood Park.
Rovers have opened talks with Tugay's representatives and Hughes hopes he will put pen-to-paper in the coming weeks.
The 36-year-old has played a bit-part role at times this term, but remains a valuable member of the Blackburn squad.
"We are in discussions with his people and I think we're very close to an agreement," Hughes said.
"He is an exceptional talent and we hope a deal can be finalised in the next couple of weeks or so.
"He has been out of the side recently but he knows the reasons why. There are some teams he is not suited to playing against.
"But he has played a lot of games and has had an influence on most of them."
