Derby are closing in on the capture of James McEveley after The Rams were given permission to talk to the Blackburn defender.
Rams chief Billy Davies is eager to add some quality to his defence for what he hopes will be a push for promotion in the Championship and he has set his sights on McEveley.
Rovers signed Stephen Warnock from Liverpool earlier in the month and this has seemingly prompted the club to make McEveley available for transfer.
An offer from Pride Park has been accepted and the club are now in the process of putting together a package for the 21-year-old.
McEveley must sign before noon on Monday if he is to be available for selection against Burnley on Tuesday.
