Deportivo La Coruna are reported to be close to finalising a deal for Espanyol defender Albert Lopo.
The powerful centre-back will become a free agent in the summer and has emerged as target for a number of Premiership sides.
Blackburn and Manchester City were understood to be particularly keen on the player, but Depor appear to have stolen a march on the rest of his suitors.
The Galician outfit are due to lose two central defenders of their own this summer with Cesar and Pablo Amo both expected to leave the club when their contracts expire.
Depor are looking to land reinforcements and Lopo is their principal target given his status as a free agent.
Managing substantial debts, Depor's transfer activity will be restricted to free transfers in the main and thus Lopo has become the favoured target of president Augusto Cesar Lendoiro.
With Lopo already allowed to talk to interested clubs, Lendoiro is understood to have contacted the 26-year-old's agent to discuss a deal and an agreement on a three-year is now all but sealed.
