Hughes confirms Amo exit

Mark Hughes has confirmed that Lorenzo Amoruso will leave the club this summer.

Blackburn manager Mark Hughes has confirmed that Lorenzo Amoruso will leave the club this summer while two players could be set to extend their stay at Ewood Park.

Amoruso has long been deemed surplus to requirements at Ewood Park with a combination of injuries and loss of form meaning he has not made a first team appearance since October 2004.

Signed by former manager Graeme Souness the Italian has made just 21 appearances in almost three years.

"Lorenzo is out of contract this summer, and it's fair to say he won't be offered another deal," confirmed Hughes.

"The situation is we've a lot of players we hope will be here for a number of years, meaning opportunities will be limited for him.

"He has managed to get fit again, is training every day and putting in a lot of effort.

"He has done well in the reserve games, and that's credit to him as a professional."

Vratislav Gresko, who was also signed in summer 2003, is out of contract as well but Hughes claims the club have yet to make a decision on the player who has only just returned after a serious knee injury.

"A decision hasn't been made on him as yet, but it will in the next couple of weeks," said Hughes.

While two players could leave Ewood Park, Hughes revealed that talks to tie up the long-term futures of Steven Reid and Zurab Khizanishvili are progressing.

Reid is currently in discussions to extend a contract which has just 12 months left to run while Hughes hopes to convert Khizanishvili's season-long loan agreement from Rangers into a permanent transfer.

"Initial talks have taken place because we'd like to keep him here. We're very keen to sign up Steven for a longer period," added Hughes.

"He's had a great season, and we hope he's going to be an influential player for us for a number of years."

On Khizanishvili's future Hughes said: "His situation is close to being resolved very quickly, although we are mindful he is still a Rangers player."
