The 23-year-old said recently that he was ready to move out on loan, but he would seem to be in Real coach Juan Roman Lopez Caro's thinking as the club have ruled out a January departure.
Real's new sporting director Benito Floro confirmed the news and suggested Mejia is likely to get his chance to shine in the near future.
Mejia has reportedly accepted the decision, but with Jonathan Woodgate returning to fitness there is no guarantee he will earn a place in the coming weeks.
