Ipswich Town have brought in Blackburn Rovers youngster Jay McEveley on a year's loan.

Joe Royle has pipped Championship rivals Stoke City to McEveley's signature as he looks to strengthen his squad.

Stoke made an offer to sign McEveley on loan, along with his Blackburn team-mate Paul Gallagher, but the left back plumped for a move to Portman Road.

McEveley undertook a loan spell in The Championship with Gillingham last season and has also turned out for Burnley on a temporary basis.

Having not featured for Rovers this season, the 20-year-old has a chance to further his career with Ipswich.

Meanwhile, Town boss Royle will decide whether to hand a contract to experienced Spanish defender Oscar Vales later this week.

Vales is currently on trial at Portman Road after leaving Athletic Bilbao at the end of last season and has impressed in training.

He is due to play for Ipswich's reserves against Fulham on Tuesday before Royle makes up his mind about adding Vales to his squad.
