Hughes dismisses Amo claims

Mark Hughes has assured Lorenzo Amoruso of his place in the Blackburn squad.

Mark Hughes has assured Lorenzo Amoruso of his place in the Blackburn squad after dismissing reports that the Italian stopper would be allowed to depart on a free.

The former Rangers man has failed to make a lasting impression since arriving at Ewood Park two years ago, and had reputedly been granted permission to leave for free despite remaining under contract for another year.

Amoruso has made no secret of his desire to return north of the border and join The Gers once again, although Hughes insists that the Italian defender remains part of his first team.

Once the 34-year-old returns from injury Hughes has pledged he will feature in his plans, despite losing his number four shirt to Andy Todd.

"Lorenzo's situation is quite clear," said Hughes.

"He is still recovering from injury, has just returned from rehab in Italy and we are hopeful that he will be fit to get involved next month.

"He remains very much part of the senior squad here."
