Former Blackburn Rovers striker Jay Bothroyd has a further chance to impress at Hertha Berlin after coach Falko Gotz opted to extend his trial by ten days.

The 23-year-old, who is contracted to Italian Serie B outfit Perugia, was due to return to his employers this week but Gotz would like to take another look at the player.

Bothroyd struggled with injuries during his last spell in England at Ewood Park; making just 11 league appearances during the 2004/2005 campaign.

It has been a similar story at the Olympia Stadion where his trial period has been blighted by a muscle problem but Hertha see potential in the tall forward.

"Technically he's not bad, he moves well and defends possession but he's not fully fit yet", declared managing director Dieter Hoeness.

The Old Lady are keen on adding reinforcements to their forward line having lost veteran German Fredi Bobic and Turkish international Ilhan Mansiz over the summer.
