Blackburn Rovers are considering a move for Nantes striker Mamadou Bagayoko.

The Mali international scored seven goals in Ligue 1 last season after struggling to sparkle since his move to Nantes from Ajaccio.

Nantes seem willing to allow the 26-year-old to leave the club and Blackburn have been forwarded as possible bidders.

Rovers boss Mark Hughes is anxious to bring in more firepower over the summer and that concern will heighten with the expected departure of Jon Stead.

But Hughes does not have a substantial transfer kitty and reports suggest the Welshman is weighing up a season-long loan offer for Bagayoko.

Should Hughes firm up his tentative interest in the African, he is likely to face competition from French side Nice.

Hughes' Nice counterpart Frederic Antonetti could hold a stronger hand, though, as he is keen to sign Bagayoko on a permanent basis.

The chance to recoup their losses on Bagayoko could appeal to Nantes, although the player himself may prefer the opportunity to test his skills in The Premiership.
