Stead staying put says agent

Jon Stead's agent has played down the latest transfer speculation.

Jon Stead's agent has played down talk linking the Blackburn Rovers striker with a move away from Ewood Park.

Sunderland have been linked with a move for the England Under-21 international in recent weeks.

Black Cats boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed he is keeping tabs on Stead's situation at Blackburn, having tried to sign the forward before he left Huddersfield for Ewood Park.

The player's agent John Seasman is not surprised by Sunderland's interest in Stead, but insists his client is happy learning his trade at Blackburn.

"I am sure Blackburn want to keep Jon as he has been playing recently," Seasman told skysports.com.

"He is happy at Blackburn and he has a chance to impress by playing games.

"It comes as no surprise that Mick McCarthy likes him as he tried to sign him before he went to Blackburn.

"There has been no approach made, but you never know in football.

"Blackburn feel he is still developing and I know Mark Hughes likes him a lot.

"Jon is just concentrating on playing."
