Latics seal Bruce deal

Oldham have bolstered their defensive ranks with the loan signing of Alex Bruce.

Oldham Athletic boss Brian Talbot has bolstered his defensive ranks with the loan acquisition of Blackburn defender Alex Bruce.

The 20-year-old stopper, son of Birmingham boss Steve, is keen to gain experience of first team football and has now made the short switch to Boundary Park.

Talbot has acted swiftly to bring in a replacement for Mark Arber, who moved out on loan to Peterborough earlier in the week.

Bruce will spend a month at Oldham, with his deal concluding on January 29 - after the game with Brentford.

Meanwhile, young Latics striker Danny Forde has extended his loan spell at Mossley for a further month.

Oldham have also been hit with the news that Jermaine Johnson faces three months on the sidelines after scans showed a ruptured medial ligament.

Talbot said: ''It's a big blow to JJ and to us. He is seeing a specialist tomorrow and we fear the worst.

''Three months is a long time to be out and it will only leave him with a few games to play before the end of the season.''
