Graeme Souness is not losing any sleep over the prospect of striker Jon Stead being lured away from Blackburn at some point in the future.

Stead was one of the finds of last season, as he took to The Premiership like a duck to water following his move from Huddersfield.

Souness feels Stead could become a target for the big guns if he continues to progress at his current rate, but such a scenario does not seem to faze the fiery Scot.

The Ewood Park chief, who paid £750,000 for Stead, said: "If Jon becomes a proper player and a big club comes along in four years' time, when he has got a year left on his contract, we will not be able to hold onto him.

"But if he continues to improve and scores 20 goals a season, we will still have won the lottery."
