Jon Stead has expressed his delight at his deadline day move from Huddersfield Town to Blackburn Rovers, with the striker raring to prove he can play at the top-level.

Stead sealed his deal just before the five o'clock deadline and will be given the chance to prove himself in The Premiership after impressing in the lower leagues.

"I'm delighted," Stead told Sky Sports News. "I can't wait for the opportunity to play in The Premiership.

"I thought it would go through at the beginning of the window, but as the month went on I started to have doubts.

"I finally got the call that the bid had been accepted and the last two days have been hectic.

"I am quietly confident I can take the step up but only time will tell."

Stead did have a late bid from Sunderland - but believed it was too late to change his mind.

"I spoke briefly with Mick McCarthy, but it was always likely to be a rush and the decision had already been made that I would join Blackburn."
