Lorenzo Amoruso has been forced to put his plans for a return to action on hold after suffering a setback in training.

The 31-year-old has been sidelined since picking up a knee injury in October, but he was looking to make a return at some point in February following surgery.

However, all plans have been put on hold after the rugged defender limped out of a training session with a calf problem.

Rovers chief Graeme Souness is now looking to take a watching brief with his Italian defender.

"Lorenzo has broken down after damaging his calf and that will set him back at least another week or so," said a disappointed Souness.

"I'm not even going to put a date on when he might return because that's a dangerous thing to do.

"He did it in training and when you've been out for so long like he has, you always worry about aggravating something else."
