MILLWALL are steeling themselves for a bid from Blackburn Rovers for Steven Reid.

Rovers have been strongly linked with the Republic of Ireland international and Millwall chairman Theo Paphitis is expecting an offer from the Ewood Park outfit.

Blackburn boss Graeme Souness sees Reid as a possible replacement for Keith Gillespie and he is ready to test Millwall's resolve to hang onto him with a firm bid.

"I am sure Graeme Souness will be making a realistic bid for Reid in the not-too-distant future," Paphitis told the South London Press.

"If he does, we will then discuss how that money can improve the squad. If it does not allow us to do that, there is no point in going on.

"We are very realistic. Reid has been fantastic for us, but, if he really wants to go, we would be unlikely to stand in his way."

Lions boss Mark McGhee is resigned to losing his prize asset as the club will not be able to turn down a sizeable bid for him.

"Given the interest in him, it might be less than probable he'll be with us next season," said McGhee.

"In the current financial climate, we cannot stonewall offers.

"If he does leave, we have to make sure we are a better team as a result of the investment in our squad."
