ASTON VILLA defender Mark Delaney is awaiting scan results to determine the extent of his latest injury setback, but absolved Blackburn`s James McEveley of any blame.

The Welsh international sustained a knee injury in a challenge with McEveley during the second half of the clash at Villa Park on Sunday.

The challenge caused controversy with Rovers boss Graeme Souness accusing Villa defender Ronny Johnsen of trying to get McEveley sent off for the incident, by protesting to referee Mike Dean.

Delaney has been dogged by injury this season and has only just returned after missing 12 games with a broken foot suffered on international duty in Azerbaijan.

The 26-year-old is refusing to blame McEveley for the challenge and is hopeful that the problem is not too serious.

He said: "I'm having a scan and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there's nothing too seriously wrong but I don't blame their player at all. It was just two players going in for the ball."
