BLACKBURN ROVERS have played down reports linking the club with a bid for Milan's unsettled attacking midfielder Andrea Pirlo.

The Italian Under-21 captain is currently behind the likes of Renato Gattuso and Demetrio Albertini in the Rossoneri's starting XI, however a move to Lancashire is far from imminent.

Although the Ewood Park club have not ruled out a bid for the star, they are happy to remain patient and wait until their relegation threat is averted.

"Our scouts are going out watching games all the time but at the moment all we are focusing on are the games ahead," said Rovers chief executive John Williams.

"Names get mentioned to us all the time, but we are not pursuing any specific targets at present to stay in The Premiership."

The 22-year-old only signed for Milan last summer after joining from neighbours Internazionale for £10 million.

The youngster recently starred in Italy's Under-21 international friendly draw against England at Valley Parade.
