Phil Jones delighted for Harry Kane after England goal

Phil Jones says the England squad were delighted for Harry Kane after he scored on his international debut in the 4-0 victory over Lithuania at Wembley on Friday.

The 21-year-old striker came on as a second-half substitute and, within two minutes, had headed home England’s fourth and final goal in the European Qualifier.

Harry Kane described his England debut as a dream come true.

Kane has been in excellent form for Tottenham this season and Manchester United defender Jones, who started alongside Gary Cahill in the centre of England's defence, was pleased to see the new boy find the back of the net on his first international appearance.

Jones said: "He has been doing it in training as well this week. He is on fire and we're delighted for him.

"He has been brilliant this season. He thoroughly deserved his call-up and the lads are delighted for him in the dressing room to score his first goal.

"He has been lively, he is a great lad and he has been scoring a lot of goals."

Kane could now make his first start for England when they take on Italy on Tuesday and Jones is expecting a tougher night in Turin.

Speaking in the SoccerAM studio, Charlie Adam thinks Harry Kane needs maintain his consistency.

He said: "That will be a big test for us.

"We're going to Turin, it is a big stadium, a big crowd. It is always a tough game against Italy. We're going there wanting to win the game.”
