Ryan Mason will not be heading out of Tottenham Hotspur again, with Mauricio Pochettino prepared to offer the midfielder a regular role.

Since making his first team debut in a UEFA Cup clash back in 2008, the 23-year-old has taken in loan spells at Yeovil Town, Doncaster Rovers, Millwall, Lorient and Swindon Town.

He has had to be patient in his pursuit of further recognition at White Hart Lane, with regular managerial changes doing his cause few favours.

Mason has, however, been drafted back into the senior fold by Pochettino and netted his first goal in a Capital One Cup victory over Nottingham Forest.

It may be difficult for him to hold down a place given the enviable array of international talent Spurs have at their disposal, but the promising playmaker has been assured that he will be given every opportunity to prove his worth and secure a long-term future in north London.

Pochettino said ahead of a Europa League date with Besiktas on Thursday: “Ryan is a big talent.

“It was difficult the last two or three seasons for him. He got different injuries and played in different clubs and was always on loan.

“But when we started pre-season, we felt something special from him, so we waited for the moment he was ready to play and we gave him the chance.

“He is 23, but he is young and has never had the possibility to show his talent here.

“Now, he deserves it. He worked hard in pre-season and now it’s important for him to use this opportunity to stay in the Premier League and in the squad.”
