Tottenham's most expensive signing Erik Lamela has told fans he will show what he can do this season after turning up fully fit for training.

The Argentina international has not appeared for Spurs since coming on as a substitute against Stoke on December 29, but he took full part in new boss Mauricio Pochettino's first pre-season session with his squad on Saturday.

Lamela joined Tottenham in a £26m deal in August last year but his first season at White Hart Lane was hampered by injury and a back problem curtailed his season early, after he had scored once in 17 appearances.

But the club said the forward has worked hard all summer and he is looking forward to impressing fellow Argentine Pochettino.

“I feel really good,” Lamela told the club's official website. “I feel fit and I hope it will be a good season ahead.

“I hope to show everyone what I can do, especially for the fans and of course for the club. I’m grateful to the fans for their affection, that’s very important for me.

“Hopefully I will get the chance to play and then I will try and perform as well as I can.”

Tottenham open their pre-season in the United States on July 19 against Seattle in the first of three matches against MLS opposition, with their first Premier League fixture on August 16 at West Ham.
