Youngster eyeing first-team shot

Tottenham's highly-rated defender Adam Smith is hoping to earn a chance to impress in the first-team before the end of the season. The 20-year-old came through the ranks at White Hart Lane, but has not managed a first-team appearance as yet. However, the England U21 international has impressed during loan spells at Wycombe, Torquay, Bournemouth, MK Dons and Leeds. Smith was recently recalled by Spurs from his latest loan spell, at Elland Road, following injuries to several first-team players and he has spoken of his desire to make his debut during the last seven games of the campaign. "It feels good to be back at home for a while and training has been enjoyable as well, so I've been able to work on a few things since I returned," he told Sky Sports. "There are only a few weeks left of the season to go and it was a chance to come back home and see the family again while trying to break into the first-team here. "I'm not really sure whether I'm closer to the first-team now or not and you never know what can happen in football.

"All I can do is keep training well and if that pays off with a chance in the first-team then great. "Obviously, the lads in the first-team here are top class professionals so training with them every day can only benefit my game in the long run. "There were a few injuries here, with not a lot of cover at the back, but in a way it was nice to get the call to come back here. "Hopefully, I can earn a chance to show what I can do in the first-team, but all I can do is work hard in training. "To be fair, I do miss running out on a Saturday for 90 minutes because you can't rival that adrenaline rush you get once you've crossed the white line. "I can't have it all my own way, but if I can break in before the end of the season it will be worth the wait."
