Blues boss wants to add to squad

Chris Hughton has admitted trying to sign Danny Rose to bolster Birmingham's options after the sales of Jean Beausejour and Liam Ridgewell. The 21-year-old Tottenham player can play left-back or left-wing so would have been able to cover the loss of both players and is known to Hughton from his time at the North London club. However, Spurs were keen to keep hold of the player, despite the presence of Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Gareth Bale as well as the club's elimination from the Europa League. Hughton told the Birmingham Mail: "What I can tell you is he is a player we have enquired about but I think Tottenham are keen to keep him there." The Birmingham boss is also keen to add a striker to the squad with Nikola Zigic having missed the last two matches with a knee injury. But Hughton was thwarted in his attempts to purchase Swansea's Stephen Dobbie and Peter Lovenkrands of Newcastle on transfer deadline day.
