Spurs skipper laid low with hamstring tear

Ledley King is facing up to another spell on the sidelines at Tottenham, with the centre-half having suffered a hamstring injury. The Spurs skipper has torn a muscle and will join the growing number of stricken stars in the White Hart Lane treatment room. King has not made a first-team appearance since before Christmas, with his last outing coming on 22nd December in a 1-1 draw with Chelsea. He has struggled with chronic knee problems for some time, with those ailments restricting his ability to train and take in regular games. Spurs had been hoping that he would be back in contention for a home date with Everton on Wednesday, as Harry Redknapp finds himself short on defensive options. There is, however, no chance of King making that fixture, with the England international having broken down in training on Friday.

That means Redknapp will be down to the bare bones for the Toffees clash, with Younes Kaboul, Sebastien Bassong and Michael Dawson, who has just returned from a four-month Achilles injury lay-off, the only available centre-halves. "Ledley did his hamstring on Friday," said the Spurs boss. "He had a little jog and tore his hamstring, we think. He has gone for a scan. We don't have the results yet but he only went for a little easy jog and his hamstring went." Should King be ruled out for a prolonged period of time, Redknapp is expected to step up his pursuit of defensive reinforcements - with Blackburn's Chris Samba heavily linked with a switch to the capital. "I have not got many options," Redknapp said. "I only have Dawson, Bassong and Kaboul. No-one else."
