Tottenham have confirmed injury-plagued defender Jonathan Woodgate has left the club.
The 31-year-old was out of contract after making just 65 appearances for Spurs since joining from Middlesbrough in January 2008.
The former Real Madrid centre-back has been dogged by back and leg problems since his days at Newcastle and his latest setback - a groin problem - meant he was only able to play one game in the last 15 months.
Spurs manager Harry Redknapp said in May that the eight-cap international was still capable of performing at the top level but was only willing to offer him a pay-as-you-play deal.
Those talks have now collapsed, though, so Woodgate is available as a free agent, with QPR and his first club Leeds having already been linked with him.
Extensions offered
Spurs have also announced that goalkeeper Stipe Pletikosa has returned to Spartak Moscow after spending last season on loan, making just one Carling Cup appearance.
Young striker Jonathan Obika, defender Adam Smith and goalkeeper Ben Alnwick have all signed contract extensions.
However, Academy players Zaine Francis-Angol and Olumide Durojaiye have been released at the end of their scholarships.
