Quotes of the week

Spurs have impressed on their maiden campaign in the tournament so far, winning a tricky group which included reigning champions Inter Milan to advance to the knockout rounds.

Harry Redknapp's men then beat AC Milan in the first leg of their last-16 tie at the San Siro, giving them a crucial 1-0 aggregate advantage heading into the return fixture in North London on Wednesday evening.

And midfielder Modric feels Tottenham should now aim to emulate the 'big teams' in the Premier League and push for a top-four finish every year.

Unbelievable

"Yes, it's true, we need to do what the big teams are doing," said Modric in the Daily Express.

"Everyone wants to play in the Champions League, it's an unbelievable competition.

"We want to carry on enjoying the feeling and that is why we need to make sure we qualify again this season."

Spurs are still in contention for a European spot this season, despite being displaced in the top four by Chelsea last week, and 25-year-old Modric has been impressed with their adeptness at juggling domestic football with their Champions League campaign.

The Croatia international expects the battle for fourth place to come down to four teams, with Liverpool establishing themselves as late contenders in recent weeks.

"We can handle both competitions, it's not too much for everyone," he added. "We have shown we are capable of doing that.

"It will be a tough fight for fourth place with Manchester City, Chelsea and maybe Liverpool. The way they played against Manchester United you can't count them out."

Tough

Modric is relishing the prospect of facing AC Milan at White Hart Lane, but knows Spurs face a tough task in finishing off the job following their first-leg victory.

He said: "We have big confidence and great belief in our quality and we showed that in Milan against a great side - but this is far from over. We can't underestimate Milan and think it's finished.

"They are a great side and we need to stay focused and concentrated and prepare like we did in Milan. It will be a great night again - it will probably be the best atmosphere that we have known here."
