Late fallers for Wales

Bale and Blake to miss midweek friendly date

Wales' preparations for Wednesday's friendly with Luxembourg have been hit by two late withdrawals. Gareth Bale and Darcy Blake have both had to pull out of the fixture after picking up slight knocks. They sustained the injuries during training and have now been ruled out of the clash in Llanelli. Tottenham winger Bale would have been hoping to use the game to increase his match sharpness ahead of the start of the new Premier League season this weekend. Meanwhile, Cardiff full-back Blake has been robbed of the opportunity to earn his first senior cap. John Toshack's reign as Wales boss has been plagued by untimely injuries and retirements and that wretched luck shows no sign of abating. He will be hoping that the latest setback is not a sign of things to come, with Euro 2012 qualification due to get underway in September.
