Nottingham Forest have revealed they are on the verge of signing Tottenham Hotspur defender Chris Gunter on loan.

The 19-year-old has not played a Premier League game for Spurs since October and manager Harry Redknapp is thought to be keen to allow him to gain first-team experience elsewhere.

Gunter had been linked with a switch to Preston North End but their Championship counterparts Forest look set to land the Welshman's signature until the end of the season.

The youngster, who signed at White Hart Lane from Cardiff City in January 2008, could make his Forest debut against Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday.
