Young keeper opted against move to Milan

Nice goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has explained his reasons for accepting a move to Lyon ahead of Milan. Lloris has agreed to join the French champions for an undisclosed sum and will replace the outgoing Gregory Coupet as Lyon's No.1. He had received an offer from Italian giants Milan, while Tottenham Hotspur also held an interest in the France Under 21 international. The young shot-stopper acknowledged he had a tough choice to make, but he is confident he has made the right decision.

Great opportunity

"This is a great opportunity for my career to have been courted by France's biggest club," Lloris told a press conference. "I think that Lyon is the right choice. "There was a choice to make - a difficult choice between two great clubs. "In Milan, things were maybe not so simple. I felt Lyon wanted me more to help me move forward." Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas feels the club's presence in next season's UEFA Champions League was a factor in winning the chase for Lloris. Aulas told the club's official website: "Not that he did not want to come, but when you have AC Milan courting you, and interest from Tottenham, it is an important decision for a young player and his family. "AC Milan will not play in the Champions League next season, neither will Tottenham, while OL will play in it for the ninth consecutive year."
