Crewe technical director Dario Gradi has confirmed the club's intent to seal the services of Lee Barnard on a loan basis.
The 23-year-old Tottenham striker was due to move to Gresty Road last week, as cover for broken leg victim Nicky Maynard.
However, a knock of his own put paid to best laid plans and the move was temporarily postponed.
Barnard is, though, now close to being ready to make the switch and Gradi is confident terms will be thrashed out, over a six-month loan deal, once he overcomes a niggling injury.
"He has a niggling injury and Tottenham do not want to send up an injured player which is quite right, because we do not want to sign an injured player," Gradi told the club's official website.
"So we are preparing to go without him for Saturday's game.
"But I am told the injury is nothing too serious and there is no problem with it, so if we cannot do the deal this week then we will look to complete it next week."
