A German media report claims that Tottenham sent a scout to watch Hertha Berlin midfielder Yildiray Basturk at the weekend.
According to Kicker, the Spurs representative was at the Friendship Stadium in Cottbus on Saturday to watch the diminutive Turkish international playmaker in action.
Basturk, who has played a pivotal role in coach Falko Gotz's team this season, has yet to decide whether to extend his current contract, which expires at the end of the season.
Berlin are known to be keen to keep the 27-year-old at the Olympiastadion, but a big money bid from Spurs could prove to be too much of a temptation for the cash-strapped capital outfit to resist.
Meanwhile Hertha general manager Dieter Hoeness is in hot water after criticizing referee Lutz Wagner following his club's defeat in Cottbus.
The former German international striker has been ordered to produce a written statement on the incident by the DFB Disciplinary Committee and could face a touchline ban as a result of his actions.
