Hibernian manager Tony Mowbray expects Derek Riordan to leave the club.
Hibernian manager Tony Mowbray has confirmed that striker Derek Riordan will probably leave the club.
Riordan's current contract expires in October, and with the likes of Rangers and Crystal Palace rumoured to be interested in snapping him up, Hibs are keen for him to put pen-to-paper on a new deal.
Fans' hopes were raised this week when the 23-year-old stated that he "would love to be here next year and play for Hibs in Europe" but Mowbray has insisted that Riordan's agent, Jim McArthur, is not prepared to let his client sign the new agreement.
Mowbray now expects Riordan to leave two months into the new season on a Bosman transfer.
"I'm not really interested in what Derek says publicly. It's when Derek comes in and speaks to the club with his advisors that matters," Mowbray explained.
"I can only go by what his advisors are telling me and I don't think what he has said changes anything. I know where we stand and there is nowhere to go.
"Derek's advisors know there is an offer on the table but they are not signing it."
Meanwhile, Tottenham are still reportedly pursuing Hibs youngsters Kevin Thompson and Scott Brown, despite the duo recently penning contract extensions.
