Jol holds out Davids hope

Martin Jol is hoping Edgar Davids' desire to play will see him figure against Charlton.

Martin Jol is hoping Edgar Davids' desire to play will see him feature in Tottenham's London derby with Charlton Athletic.

Davids is recovering from a hairline fracture to his leg, which he suffered against Aston Villa last month.

Though the injury has healed, Davids is not quite 100 percent fit and is doubtful for Sunday's clash at White Hart Lane, live on Sky Sports 1.

Spurs boss Jol is continuing to assess Davids' fitness and hopes to include the Dutch midfielder against The Addicks.

Jol accepts it is touch and go, but is banking on Davids' attitude to ensure the 32-year-old is available for selection.

"The fracture has healed, so it is only a matter if it is too painful," said Jol.

"Edgar is 32, he knows exactly when he can play and cannot. He said he will try, but he didn't look 100 percent in training yesterday.

"We will work on him every day, so hopefully he will be a bit better.

"He trained because he wants to play."
