Mounir el Hamdaoui's Tottenham Hotspur debut is on hold for at least another fortnight.

The Moroccan striker moved to White Hart Lane in January from Excelsior Rotterdam and survived on a diet of reserve-team football last term.

He had been pressing his claims to Spurs boss Martin Jol during pre-season and had figured in several friendlies.

But he will now miss the start of the new Premiership campaign after injuring his knee for the reserves against Watford on Monday.

El Hamdaoui is waiting for the results of tests to determine how long he will be sidelined for but Jol feels the 21-year-old will be absent for at least a fortnight.

"We are waiting for the results of a scan but I think he will be out for at least two weeks," Jol told the club's official website.

"It's very disappointing news for Mounir because he'd been involved with the first-team squad throughout pre-season."
