Jol happy to keep Kanoute

Martin Jol has assured Fredi Kanoute he wants him to stay at the club.

Tottenham boss Martin Jol has assured Fredi Kanoute he wants him to stay at the club.

The Mali international had admitted earlier this week he feared the club wanted to sell him to raise funds.

West Ham, Newcastle, Sevilla and Manchester City have all been linked with Kanoute, but Jol insists he still has a future at White Hart Lane.

"I told him last year that overall I was very happy with him," said Jol.

"In fact I don't think there was one player who had a particular bad season.

"He was an important part of my squad.

"He was the only big striker I had so he was playing all the games and I was happy with him.

"One club made an enquiry for him last week but when there is a problem with Fredi he will walk into my office and want to talk about it and I haven't seen him.

"I have not spoken about it with him. I am happy with him and I am perfectly happy for him to stay."
