Contra denies Davids story

Cosmin Contra is considering legal action against a British newspaper after being quoted as describing new Tottenham midfielder Edgar Davids as a 'violent psychopath'.

The Atletico Madrid defender is furious after hearing about the story in the News of the World and has vehemently denied ever talking to anyone about Davids.

"I have not spoken to any journalists, either in Britain or Italy, about this," he told Atletico's official website.

Contra refused to elaborate on what steps he would take but it is reported in Spain that he has left the matter in the hands of his lawyers.

The former West Bromwich Albion defender was said to have a long-running feud with the Dutch star following an argument between the pair after a game in Serie A.

"Davids seems to believe he is someone far more important and special than he really is," Contra was quoted as saying in the News of the World.

"He is arrogant and gives the impression that everyone else is a nothing.

"His new club should watch out, Davids is actually a bit of a psycho, a violent man who can hold a grudge."
