Spurs rebuff Kanoute bid

Tottenham have rejected a £4.5 million from West Brom for striker Fredi Kanoute.

Tottenham have rejected an official £4.5 million bid from West Brom for striker Fredi Kanoute.

Baggies boss Bryan Robson has made the acquisition of a new striker a priority this summer and is thought to have been pursuing Kanoute since the end of the last campaign.

He reportedly enquired about the possibility of taking the former West Ham man on a season-long loan next term, but was flatly rebuffed by the North Londoners.

Robson subsequently returned with a firm bid but has now also seen that rejected.

"We can confirm that we have rejected a bid from West Brom for Fredi Kanoute," a Spurs spokesman stated.

Kanoute has been a qualified success since moving to White Hart Lane from West Ham two years ago.

A combination of injury and competition for places with the likes of Jermain Defoe and Robbie Keane has restricted him to just 41 Premiership starts in North London, although he has managed 14 goals in that time.

It is unclear whether West Brom will return with a further offering, but it appears Spurs are determined to hang on to the Mali international despite being linked with a move for at least one new striker themselves this summer.
