Tottenham defender Anthony Gardner fears he may need surgery on his foot in order to get his career back on track.
The 23-year-old has been carrying the problem for six months and it is only since the return to fitness of Michael Dawson has he been handed some respite by coach Martin Jol.
Gardner claims the pain has got so severe that he expects he will have to go under the knife in order to be fully fit for the start of next term.
"I aggravated it in the Newcastle game and since then it has been terrible," he said. "I can move the foot a little but I've had the problem for a while.
"It's not getting any better so I just have to try and manage it. I'm at the stage where I can't carry on with it any longer.
"I picked it up in October and it has been there ever since."
