Fredi Kanoute has finally been tracked down, and on his return to London he told Tottenham fans: "I'm fine."

Mali had led their World Cup qualifier against Togo until the 83rd minute, when Togo turned the game on its head with two quick goals.

Kanoute and Mamadou Bayoko are seen as Mali's leading players, and they were targeted by a crowd of 70,000 who stormed the pitch shouting: "Give us Frederic Kanoute and Mamadou Bayoko. We are going to kill them."

Kanoute had since disappeared, with a Spurs official confirming that they were unable to contact the striker.

However, Kanoute is back home and he told the club's website: "I am fine, just a little tired after the travelling."

Spurs' £4 million signing annoyed the club last year by deciding to ignore previous French connections, in favour of playing for Mali in the African Cup of Nations.

This decision may well prove to have been the wrong one for Kanoute, and it remains to be seen if he will represent Mali again.
