Yeates delight over Spurs deal

Premiership outfit Tottenham have rewarded midfielder Mark Yeates with a new three-year deal after a series of promising displays.

The Ireland Under-19 international has impressed new boss Jacques Santini and will be hoping to break into the Frenchman's first-team setup next season.

Yeates made his Spurs debut at the close of last season against Wolves and has now spoken of both his surprise and delight at landing a new deal.

''I am happy to get it out of the way and get down to pre-season,'' said Yeates.

''I am delighted to sign again, but I had a couple of years left on my other one, so it came as a bit of a surprise when they offered me something.

''I love being part of this club and I think that with all the changes that are coming along now, it is a good opportunity for me and the young lads to try and impress.''

Yeates' compatriot Stephen Kelly agreed a similar deal to stay at White Hart Lane last week.
