Leeds United are reported to have turned down a £5 million bid from Tottenham Hotspur for Paul Robinson and James Milner.

It was thought the North London club were seeking Norwegian midfielder Eirik Bakke and Robinson, but the real target has emerged as starlet Milner.

The cash-strapped West Yorkshire club have could have used the money to stave off the threat of administration, with £5 million the required amount needed by next week to the club's creditors.

Plans to save £5 million by imposing a 30 percent wage deferment were shelved during a team meeting on Tuesday evening, with players not keen on the idea.

Spurs have obviously decided to test the water to see how determined the Elland Road outfit are to hold on to their key players, and the rebuffal is a clear warning to any other vultures that the club are not prepared to lose their star performers while they are in a relegation battle.

However, if the club can find no other way of raising the required funds, a deal could be forthcoming if the North London club decide to up their initial offer for the England goalkeeper and young midfielder.

In other news, Leeds have released defensive flops Didier Domi and Zoumana Camara who were on loan from Paris Saint Germain and Lens respectively.
