Robbie Keane has backed Helder Postiga to win over his detractors and prove to be a success at Tottenham Hotspur.

The £6.25 million capture from Porto has had a sticky start to his Spurs career and misfired once again against Aston Villa.

Reports have linked Postiga with a return to Portugal in the transfer window, but Keane feels it will be just a matter of time before the youngster fulfils his potential.

"He is a good player, he scored a lot of goals last year in Portugal," said Keane. "You do not spend that much money on a bad player.

"Helder is only 20 and it will take time to settle in, but he will come good.

"With a bit of luck a few of those chances today would have gone in.

"He is flying in training and when that first goal comes, it will all come for him."

Keane netted the winner against Aston Villa and the forward admitted it was nice to get back on the scoresheet.

He said: "I have not been scoring as regularly as last year but I had an injury at the start of the season that put me back a bit but I got one today and it was important.

"It was hard out there, it was slippery, you could see that, but we got the three points which was the most important thing."
