Tottenham are sweating over the fitness of key striker Frederic Kanoute after he was stretchered off against Leicester on Sunday.

The Frenchman was on cloud nine after netting the last minute winner against The Foxes, but was brought down to earth with a bump when taking a fearsome whack on the ankle from Muzzy Izzet.

Spurs caretaker boss David Pleat was initially confident the forward's problem was just superficial damage, the full extent of the injury will not be known until scans and X-rays have been undertaken.

"It is not very good," was Pleat's more considered assessment. "Frederic's ankle is very sore at the moment and he will have X-rays and scans before we can determine the problem."

Kasey Keller, meanwhile, has thanked his Tottenham team-mates for digging him out of a huge hole on Sunday.

The American custodian made one of biggest blunders of the season when gifting Leicester the opener against Spurs on Sunday.

Keller somehow allowed Paul Dickov's weak effort to slip through his grasp and into the net.

For long periods it appeared the gaffe would prove costly, but a wonder strike from Mbulelo Mabizela and Kanoute's last minute effort spared his blushes.

Speaking after the game, a clearly relieved Keller said: "I think I'll be buying all the lads dinner for the next few weeks because they've done me a big favour there.

"It was a bad mistake and I held my hands up at half time to say sorry.

"I just tried to put it to one side and forget about it.

"I asked the lads to get a goal for me - but two was even better. I'll still be beating myself up for weeks."
