Qu hopes to earn his Spurs

CHINESE striker Qu Bo is hoping to win a permanent move to Tottenham by impressing on trial at White Hart Lane.

As revealed by Planetfootball.com Spurs have been chasing the highly-rated 20-year-old for some time, and he will begin a week trial in North London next week.

The Qingdao Yizhong star impressed at the World Cup with China and he is delighted to be given the chance of winning a move to England with Spurs.

"Never in my wildest imagination did I think that Tottenham would be able to tie up the travel arrangements just two days after talks began between them and Qingdao," said Bo.

"It is brilliant that Tottenham can bring me over in such a short time, and I am looking forward to the trials next week.

"It's almost like a dream at the moment."

Meanwhile, Spurs boss Glenn Hoddle has moved to put the record straight on transfer rumours involving the club.

They have been linked with Fiorentina striker Nuno Gomes as well as Middlesbrough's new record signing Massimo Maccarone, but Hoddle has dismissed the speculation.

The former England coach admitted he is working hard at adding to the squad for the new season and that he had no interest in Gomes or Maccarone.

"The build-up to every season sees speculation and rumour from the press regarding transfers and this year is no different," Hoddle told the club's official website.

"We have not been interested in any of the players named in the papers this week, including Gomes and Maccarone. The Gomes story made me laugh - I appear to have been to places without even knowing I went!"

"I am working closely with the Board to ensure that we have strength and depth in our squad for the coming season."

Gomes is now being linked with a possible move to Premiership new boys Birmingham or old club Benfica.

The Portuguese international is poised to leave Artemio Franchi after Fiorentina's relegation to Serie B.

Benfica are hoping to take him on loan with a view to a permanent move, while Birmingham are ready to move for Gomes having been frustrated in their attempts to land Maccarone and Crystal Palace's Clinton Morrison.
