Former Ipswich and Crystal Palace striker Shefki Kuqi has applied for the vacant manager’s position at Portsmouth.
Pompey have been without a permanent manager since the club parted company with Andy Awford in March.
Awford’s departure came just five weeks after he was named as February's League 2 manager of the month.
Kuqi, who first arrived in England in 2001, has previously stated his desire to move into a management career.
"I think in the last five years or so I knew that I wanted to go into management and it is something that I am actively pursuing," Kuqi told Sky Sports in 2013.
"I have been going out watching games and trying to learn as many things as I can.
"Where I will start, I don't know, but I definitely want to manage in England.
"I could go to Finland and start there, but working in England is my goal and I am waiting to see what opportunities come along."
Kuqi scored over 100 goals in English football and won 52 caps for Finland, although he has never held a manager’s position since retiring two years ago.
Portsmouth have also been linked with Southend’s Phil Brown as well as former manager Harry Redknapp.
Redknapp led Pompey to a famous FA Cup triumph in 2008 but has ruled out a return to the south coast club.
"I will wait until the end of the season and see what comes up,” he said.
“I still follow Portsmouth; they were the happiest times for me. I loved every minute when I was there, but I wouldn't see that happening really."
