Burnett pleased by Dagenham

Wayne Burnett was pleased with the performance of Dagenham despite watching them fail to break down Portsmouth at Victoria Road.

It was a frantic start, but neither side was able to create a clear cut opportunity despite a number of attacks taking place in the opening 20 minutes. Portsmouth created the best chance of the first half when Jed Wallace's corner was met by Jack Whatmough in the 36th minute. The defender, unmarked, headed over the bar from close range and it remained goalless at the break. Daggers created the first opportunity in the second half when Jamie Cureton linked up with Alex Jakubiak, who passed to Andre Boucaud in space. But the Trinidad and Tobago international smashed an effort wide in the 65th minute. Pompey responded with Josh Passley a constant threat on the right and he had a shot deflected, which Mark Cousins gratefully grasped at his near post. But neither team was able to find a telling strike and it finished goalless, which keeps both teams on 34 points. Burnett was satisfied with the result that continues Daggers upturn in fortune. He said: "We tried to make it three wins from three and I think we have put in a really good performance against a good Portsmouth team. Forget their run of results they have got some good players. "They have some very good players and I thought we had very good performances from everyone. "Was it a case of neither side doing enough to win the game? Probably. I probably felt if anything we were slightly looked the more likely to score. "But they have got some good players like Ryan Taylor and Matt Tubbs. They are good footballers aren't they? "Our back four was good and the four in midfield worked incredibly hard and we just didn't get the rub of the green at times up top, but we move on and that is one defeat in eight so we are okay and we look strong, competitive and a team of men." Pompey manager Andy Awford conceded his team wasn't good enough in the final third. He said: "Any point away from home is always a good result, but we didn't come here for a point we wanted a win away from home. "It was the same team from the last game and only one change from the game before that against Wycombe when we created a whole host of chances and we did the same against Hartlepool on Saturday. "There was no change in mentality and no change in thinking. It was go again. We looked very solid again and solid as a unit, but unfortunately it didn't happen for us in the final third. "I thought Ryan Taylor and Matt Tubbs both worked their socks off and it is not just them because you can talk about service and all sorts of things, but as a team we didn't function when attacking well enough and we know that. "It is another point and three unbeaten. We are pleased with that and we need to build on that on Saturday."
