Bird: I'm living the dream

Trialist Ryan Bird admits he is living the dream after a two-goal haul in Portsmouth's 5-0 win over Havant & Waterlooville.

The 24-year-old was playing non-league football for Burnham last season and was working as an electrician until joining up with the Pompey squad. And after moving a step closer to a contract with an impressive display, which began with the opening goal after 48 seconds, Bird says he is pinching himself at how well things are going. "I'm loving life," he told the Chichester Observer. "I'm buzzing. Two weeks ago I was working on a building site as an electrician and playing non-League football. It's living the dream. "There are other League clubs interested in me. But Pompey is by far the biggest and, obviously, this is where I want to be. "To follow in the footsteps of all the great players that have been here would be ridiculous."
