Pompey lining up Rocha return

Former Portsmouth defender Ricardo Rocha is in talks over a surprise move back to Fratton Park.

The Portuguese centre-half, 34, had to be released by the cash-strapped club at the end of last season after making 76 appearances. But caretaker boss Guy Whittingham is considering bringing Rocha, who played in the 2010 FA Cup final defeat by Chelsea and is currently a free agent, back to the south coast. "I have had contact with Ric," Whittingham told The News. "There is a long way to go but he is one of the guys I would like to bring back. "There are two willing parties trying to do it. The circumstances we are under doesn't make it that easy, but I think he would love to come back and we would love to have him back so we'll see how we go. "He has always stayed in touch. When I got the caretaker role, one of the first texts I had was from him wishing me all the best - and that's where it started."
