West Brom defender Nicky Shorey admits he is one of a number of players who are playing for their Baggies future in the next few weeks.
The former Reading full-back's contract expires at the end of the season and, although there is the option for a one-year extension, talks are not expected to take place until after the final game of the campaign.
Shorey's team-mates Steven Reid, Paul Scharner, Jerome Thomas and Marc-Antoine Fortune also face a nervous wait to see whether the club will trigger a one-year extension to their deals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Keith Andrews and goalkeeper Martin Fulop become free agents at the end of the campaign, meaning a summer of upheaval could be in the offing in the Black Country.
Shorey admits that the next few weeks could be crucial in deciding his immediate future as well as those of a number of Albion stars.
"I think there are a lot of people looking at where they're going to be next season and I am one of them. We need to try to put a marker down and then see what happens in the summer," Shorey told the
Express and Star.
"The club have got an option on me but my contract is up in the summer so we will see what happens.
Relaxed
"I am quite relaxed about it. We will see what happens in the summer, when we will sit down and go from there."
The 31-year-old also expressed his frustration at being out of the first-team picture in recent weeks.
The arrival of Liam Ridgewell from Birmingham in January saw Shorey dropped, though he did make a return to the starting XI for the game at Manchester City in midweek.
"It's disappointing," he said, when quizzed on his first-team demotion. "I got dropped earlier in the season and I fully understood that.
"Then Liam came in and I got dropped again and I wasn't too pleased with that.
"But that's the way it goes in football and when I get my opportunities I try to take them.
"I was pretty happy with the way I did on Wednesday considering I hadn't played much I felt quite good. It was just nice to be out there again."
